Your Vision is for an Appointed Time

By: Rev. Boniface G. Gitau

Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry” (Hab. 2:2-3).

Many people have great dreams, visions and aspirations in life but they never realize them because either their present circumstances seem to prevail against them or the fulfillment of their dreams seems to take too long therefore they give up on them. After succeeding with the light bulb invention, Thomas Edison made this profound statement, “many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

No better man would have given such advice than Thomas Edison who knew what it meant to fail countless times and face all odds against his dream and yet he knew it was a matter of time for him to succeed in his invention.

There are three things one has to do if he wants to fulfill his vision or dream. First, write the vision down. This will serve as a constant remainder of your vision and will help you stay focused and overcome doubt.

Secondly, it is a matter of time for your vision or dream to be realized.  Visions and dreams are like seeds, some seeds take time to sprout while others sprout within days. Some take years before they fully mature into plants or trees that bear fruit, while others only take a few weeks. Therefore depending on the vision that God has placed in you, God has set various times for each vision to be fulfilled.

Thirdly, your vision is greater than your present circumstances. No matter how big the hurdles that are before you, they should not be seen as limitations but opportunities to see God at work. Though God promised the Israelites the Promised Land, they still had to go through the wilderness and face giants along the way.  The apostle John admonishes us that, “… greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Do not give up on your vision or dream, the fulfillment of it is a matter of time. “He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” Phil. 1:6.
